As a longtime fan myself, I believe that engaging with art through transformative works like fanfiction and fan art is one of the highest compliments a creator can receive. I wholeheartedly support and encourage you to play in the sandbox of my universe. My goal with this policy is to protect you, the fan creator, and to protect my ability to continue writing new stories for you.
1. Fanfiction (Using My Characters)
You are absolutely welcome to write stories featuring my characters (fanfiction), create art, make playlists, write meta-analysis—whatever inspires you! There are no restrictions on content or pairings.
- Rule: Fanfiction must be a non-commercial activity. Please do not sell it on platforms like Amazon, Patreon, or through commissions.
2. Writing in My Universe (Using Your Own Characters)
You are welcome to create your own original characters and write stories set in the worlds I've built (derivative works). This is a fantastic way to explore the universe!
- Rule: As with fanfiction, this must be a non-commercial activity. If you are interested in selling a story set in my universe, please contact me about a professional licensing agreement.
3. Fan Art & Fan Merchandise
I love seeing art of my characters! Selling your fan art or fan-made merchandise (like keychains, prints, or enamel pins) is okay under the following conditions:
- This is for small-scale, limited runs (e.g., up to 50 units per design).
- This does not apply to mass-production or print-on-demand sites (like Redbubble, TeePublic, etc.).
- Please credit the characters/universe to me, S.J. Pajonas, and link back to spajonas.com.
For anything beyond this, please contact me for a simple, fan-friendly licensing agreement.
The Golden Rule: Please Do Not Send It To Me!
I am so incredibly honored that you are creating works based on my stories. I wish I could read and enjoy every single one! However, for legal and ethical reasons, I absolutely cannot. Please do not send me links to your work or tag me on social media. This policy is strict and is in place to protect both of us. Any links or files sent to me will be deleted without being opened.
A Quick Note on Credit
When posting your work, a simple credit like “Characters from the [Series Name] series by S.J. Pajonas” or “Story set in the universe of S.J. Pajonas” is greatly appreciated. This helps new readers discover the original source material.
