Welcome to the Duo Systems: The Worlds of the Flyght Series!

If you found your way here, you’ve already seen glimpses of the stunning planets, high-tech spaceships, and vibrant cultures that make up the Flyght Series. The Duo Systems—composed of the Brazilianos System and the Californikos System—isn't just a backdrop; it is a living, breathing universe that directly shapes the intense drama, romance, and political intrigue of the books.

Here is a quick guide to how the unique worlds of the Duo Systems influence the dynamics of the Flyght Series.

A Universe Divided by Culture and Tech

A slice of humanity has settled across two star systems connected by massive jump rings, each with its own distinct flavor.

  • The Brazilianos System is the wilder, agricultural heart of the universe. It features Ossun, a quiet farming planet with sweeping estates and long, subtle seasons. In stark contrast is Rio, a dangerous, unpredictable planet of deep oceans and dense rainforests where citizens live in floating cities to avoid lethal alien wildlife (like Sentient Squids and Dragonsnakes). Finally, there is Neve, a freezing, ice-covered world dominated by secret military bases under atmospheric domes.
  • The Californikos System is the glittering hub of high society, technology, and wealth. It houses Palo Alto, a chic planet known for its advanced tech, white sand beaches, and mega-corporate headquarters. Nearby is Sonoma, a wine-producing agricultural world modeled after Old Earth's Northern California, and Laguna, the ultimate luxury island destination for the elite.

Matriarchal Power & “Relationship Networks”

Perhaps the most fascinating dynamic in the Flyght Series is its societal structure. Because the human population hasn't reached gender parity, women are the exclusive landholders on planets like Ossun. To build wealth, protect their assets, and produce heirs, women form “relationship networks”—alliances consisting of multiple husbands and consorts.

This flips traditional romance on its head. Throughout the series, the pressure to secure a prosperous network drives the characters. Men must prove their value to a network through their skills, influence, or wealth, making romance an intricate dance of love, business, and survival.

Corporate Monopolies vs. Independent Spacers

The Duo Systems are heavily controlled by massive powers like the Duo Systems Military and mega-corporations like Athens Industries, who monopolize medical tech and harbor dark, illegal secrets—such as human trafficking and the weaponization of alien plants.

Because of this intense corporate oversight, a rugged culture of independent spacers has emerged. Captains traverse the jump rings in cargo cruisers, relying on independent broker apps like “Flyght” to bypass heavy regulations and make a living out in the black.
