When I first started this journey with Mei, she was a reluctant detective. She wanted to help, but she didn't want to cause harm to her mother's reputation (or her own). She just wanted to help Akiko. Now, three books later, Mei realizes that solving mysteries is actually a lot of fun, and something that she's pretty good at.
