Holy crap, it's MAY! Where is this year going? It's almost hard to believe that we're well into spring and summer is just around the corner. Two months from now, I'll be at the pool every day with my kids. :) I cannot wait!
It was a busy week around here. So busy that I actually lost track of everything and posted the photo twice to Instagram. Lolololol. I can't believe I did that! I now have a new policy: if I don't take the picture THAT MOMENT and upload it, I have to go back and look at what I've uploaded recently. Lol. I'm still laughing about that.
I thought I would have written more in April, and I had planned to write a whole short story, but it just didn't happen. With the construction in the kitchen and den every day, banging, sawing, and hip hop music constantly, I found it REALLY hard to concentrate and be creative. It was really frustrating. Just this past week I was talking about this with my friend, Amy, and she suggested I give transcription a try. This is when you talk into a recorder (I would use my iPhone) and then take the sound file into Dragon and have it transcribe it for you. I have resisted transcription because my memory is so poor and I worry that I'll just talk in circles or forget what I've already said. But at this point I'm desperate. If I try this, I can walk out of the house and up the street and just talk it out. So I'm going to try it this week and see how it goes.
Here are some kitchen progress shots! It IS coming along and we're nearing the end!
Because I didn't want to be totally useless during this time, I decided instead to work on my website for the last two weeks. I went through this entire site and cleaned it up. I added images to old posts, probably close to 100 images. I deleted old posts that were obsolete and redirected them to new pages. I fixed old links and updated covers. I added information to posts I want to advertise on Facebook. I basically did a WHOLE LOT OF WORK and it probably won't show unless you spend a lot of time on my site! Lol. Which is fine, because it mattered to me, and that's what's important. I also switched over my newsletter offerings to BookFunnel and updated my newsletter popups, and I updated the images in the homepage slider. The site is looking very spiffy now and I'm super happy with it.
In fiction writing, I thought I was going to write a Miso Cozy short story or novella, and I plotted it all out and wrote the beginning 5000 words, but I stopped because I'm not sure what I want to do with it. I may just offer it to newsletter subscribers if the Miso Cozy series does well. Right now, that's hard to tell. I need a few more books out in the series before I can determine how well it'll do. So I put it on the back burner. During May, I have to do my revisions on THE DAYDREAMER DETECTIVE BRAVES THE WINTER so I will be outlining new work, both fiction and non-fiction, that I can start writing on once they're done. I have three ideas I'd like to start soon!
What else happened this week?
This is the photo I uploaded twice! At least it was pretty!
My gym is very brightly colored and really wakes you up!
I treated myself to some fresh ramen (from the refrigerated section at my Asian grocery store) after a very intense chiropractor adjustment. My chiro could tell just how stressed out I've been and how much work I've done at the computer (on my website). I needed that adjustment… and the ramen!
And here I am working on my Five Planets In Retrograde post. So far it's been widely shared on social media and is getting good traffic. And it gave me a great idea for something new too!
So, what's going on this week? I'll be posting about a FACE TIME sale tomorrow, a post on What's Love In The Digital Age on Tuesday, and a review from the Asian grocery store on Friday.
Have a great week everyone!
I’m sure you will love your kitchen when it’s done. Went thru this in our other house. Crazy, noisy, disruptive, but oh how nice when it was finished. Good luck getting work done. Have your tried headphones to block out the noise?
My husband JUST bought me Bose noise canceling headphones as an early Mother’s Day present! Yay! I used them today and they were fabulous. I hope to be back in the groove of things soon.
I am not looking forward to summer as it’s too warm for me, but I do like spring. And this year sure seems to move fast.
I can imagine how all that noise of the kitchen remodel is disruptive to your writing. Your kitchen does look great already and it’s amazing to see the progress, I am curious to see what it looks like once it’s done!
Work on your website like that can be very valuable, even if no one sees it. I still plan to clean up some older posts as the formatting is all wonky form when switched from blogger to wordpress, but on the other hand those posts are so old I don’t care as much about them anymore, but I also don’t want to remove them.
That ramen looks delicious, yum! I hope you’ll have a great week!
I had more ramen today for lunch, but it was for science!! :) Actually, it was for the blog, so expect to see another bowl of it in the near future.
My husband bought me noise canceling headphones as an early Mother’s Day present and I used them today during all the construction. It was nice to get a break from the noise.
